Shatrughan Sinha Defends Mumbai Police Amid Saif Ali Khan Attack, Urges End to ‘Blame Game’

On January 16, 2025, Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, aged 54, was attacked violently at his home in Bandra, Mumbai. According to reports, an intruder stabbed Khan in the early hours of the morning, and there is widespread concern about his well-being and the state of security for celebrities. Since the attack took place, it has stirred reactions from both the film fraternity and the public, with most of them sending words of reorientation and intention for quick recovery to the actor.

As news about his attack filtered, some of Khan’s peer colleagues in the film industry, including his family members, were very much concerned regarding his safety and health. His fans and fellow celebrities show hospitality toward him by wishing him a speedy recovery. Among those who took to social media to speak out was veteran actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha, a close family friend of Saif’s, and father of actress Sonakshi Sinha, who co-starred with Saif in the 2013 film Bullet Raja.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account on January 19, just days after the attack, Sinha expressed his shock and sadness at the incident. In his post, Sinha referred to the attack as “sad and unfortunate,” and praised the quick recovery of Saif Ali Khan, while also extending his regards to Saif’s wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, whom he described as the granddaughter of legendary filmmaker Raj Kapoor.

His post read: “Very sad & unfortunate the tragic attack on our near, dear & loved #SaifAliKhan which injured him severely. Thank God he is healing well to recovery. Deep regards to my all-time favourite ‘show man’ filmmaker #RajKapoor’s granddaughter #KareenaKapoorKhan & the family.” Sinha also shared a picture of Saif and Kareena from the hospital, which was later criticized by some netizens for seeming insensitive in the wake of the attack. The post was eventually deleted after the backlash.

Along with his well-wishes, Sinha went on to request that the public stay away from what he called the “blame game” with regard to the incident. An actor-turned-politician showed confidence in both the Mumbai police and the government of Maharashtra and said they should be left alone to do the job. “One humble appeal please stop the ‘blame game’, police are doing their job well”. We certainly appreciate our CM & HM, Maharashtra @Dev_Fadnavis for his concern & remedial measures,” he wrote further that soon the matter would be resolved and that the authorities were moving in the right direction.

The attack took place when the intruder broke into his apartment, which stands on the 12th floor. Identified as Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir alias Vijay Das (30), the intruder stabbed Khan a number of times, according to media reports. A court in the city of Mumbai remanded the accused into five-day police custody on January 21. Just a day prior, the accused was arrested from the neighboring city of Thane.

Now, as Saif Ali Khan regains his recovery, the security of high profile people in this city has turned a questionable issue. Even Shatrughan Sinha’s call to restrain and respect the law while supporting the efforts of the authorities is an endeavor to avoid creating further complications during the investigation procedure. Fans of Khan and members of the film industry are eager to see their favorite actor and the case at large get out of this tricky situation.

With the support of his family, friends, and fans, Saif Ali Khan is expected to overcome this unfortunate incident, and the ongoing investigation will surely shed light on the full details of the attack.
