Born and raised in Baiyanpur, Sonipat district, Ankit Baiyanpuria (real name: Ankit Singh) faced significant obstacles from the outset. Coming from a modest family background, financial constraints meant limited access to resources, making higher education and early athletic ambitions difficult.
“Growing up in a small village, I barely had exposure to modern gyms or fitness culture,” Baiyanpuria told ESPN India in an interview. “Most of what I learned was self-taught, inspired by wrestlers and local athletes.”
After completing his education at a local government school, he attended college but struggled to finance his studies, often working odd jobs to support himself.
The Turning Point: Embracing Fitness and Social Media
The COVID-19 lockdown in 2020 proved to be a catalyst for change. With gyms closed and movement restricted, Ankit turned to calisthenics and traditional akhada-style workouts in his backyard—training with bricks, homemade weights, and body-weight exercises.
Realizing the growing popularity of fitness content on social media, he began uploading short videos to Instagram and YouTube. Initially, his videos attracted a small, loyal audience, but his “75 Hard Challenge”—a rigorous program blending discipline, fitness, and clean living—drew viral attention in mid-2023.
“The 75 Hard Challenge changed my life. It taught me about consistency and mental toughness, and I wanted to bring that to my audience,” he explained during a recent Aaj Tak interview.
Rapid Rise to Fame
By late 2023, Ankit’s unique fitness routines and rustic personality had struck a chord with millions. His Instagram (@ankit_baiyanpuria) surpassed 4 million followers, while his YouTube content regularly garners millions of views.
Key elements of his appeal include:
Authenticity: Unlike urban influencers, Ankit’s videos showcase no-frills training, often outdoors, reflecting Indian rural life.
Motivation: His messages about discipline, mental health, and personal growth resonate across age groups.
‘Desi’ Fitness Culture: He incorporates traditional Indian exercises such as dands (push-ups), baithaks (squats), and gada (mace) training.
“His videos inspire young people to embrace their roots and prioritize health,” said fitness expert Priya Saini to India Today.
Overcoming Adversity
Baiyanpuria’s journey was not a straightforward ascent. He has spoken openly about periods of self-doubt, family expectations, and struggles with injury and online criticism.
“My biggest challenge was proving that fitness could be both accessible and relatable, even without fancy equipment or expensive protein powders,” Ankit noted in a 2024 Q&A.
He cites his father—a daily-wage laborer—as his primary inspiration, recalling lessons about hard work and humility.
Expanding His Influence
In addition to promoting calisthenics and good nutrition, Baiyanpuria now collaborates with leading sports brands, participates in public wellness campaigns, and speaks at universities about the importance of fitness and self-discipline.
He also launched the “Baiyanpuria Fitness Movement,” aimed at providing rural youth with training resources and mentorship.

“Ankit is more than an influencer—he’s a movement. He’s proof that background doesn’t determine your potential,” says Dr. Rajat Chawla, sports psychologist.
The Impact of Social Media
Ankit’s story exemplifies how platforms like YouTube and Instagram can democratize opportunity, especially for rural creators. His raw, unpolished content counters the urban “gym bro” stereotype, appealing to India’s heartland and diaspora.

He remains committed to his roots and mission: “If I can motivate even one person to better their life through fitness, I consider it a victory.”
