Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan has finally begun shooting for his much-awaited war drama, Border 2, in Jhansi, starring alongside co-stars Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. The sequel to the iconic 1997 film Border was officially announced in 2024. Fans of the original film were excited to hear that the sequel would bring together some of the most talented actors in the industry, and now, with Varun’s participation in the shoot, the excitement has only intensified.
Border 2, which commenced filming in December 2024, is being directed by Anurag Singh. The movie is expected to carry the same powerful themes of patriotism, sacrifice, and courage that made the first film so beloved by audiences. One of the major highlights of the project is Varun Dhawan, who is stepping into the world of war cinema in a significant role alongside veteran actor Sunny Deol, who is returning to his iconic role in the sequel.
On January 16, 2025, the Border 2 makers posted a glimpse of the filming process on their official social media accounts. In a post celebrating the beginning of Varun Dhawan’s journey with the film, the actor is seen standing with producers Bhushan Kumar and Nidhi Dutta, co-producer Shiv Chanana, and director Anurag Singh. In the photo, he is dressed quite the soldier way: a grey t-shirt and blue jeans; black leather jacket, with an impressive mustache adding rugged character to his frame. He will be holding that clapperboard for the movie’s first shot, marking an official beginning into the next chapter of Border saga.

The excitement had already begun with the release of the announcement video for Border 2 with a stirring voiceover by Sunny Deol. In the promo video, the film’s maker added Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty to Sunny Deol with the tag of making an epic film. Moreover, Varun shared his experience on his Instagram saying he admired J.P. Dutta’s Border in its original self. He also mentioned, “J P Dutta sir’s war epic is one of the most favourite movie of mine up till date.
